Custom Motorola i90c Phone Holster Mod to fit Samsung i600 Smartphone
by John Cody
November 17, 2003

6/13/06 UPDATE: I no longer have my Samsung i600 Smartphone, so I now have two "kits" of my cell phone holster modification for sale.

Each kit contains:

  • A brand-new un-modified genuine Motorola i90c phone holster - all ready to be modified using my instructions below
  • A pre-molded phone holster that I actually used, but it developed one or more cracks in it over the years and was crazy-glued a few times to repair it. This holster is meant to really just be a "sample" to guide you while performing your own modification to the new holster.
  • Remember: This modified holster allows you to use the extra-life battery (other Samsung i600 phone holsters may only work with the standard battery)
  • UPS ground shipping included in below price (note: I will only ship to the verified paypal address of your paypal account)

Refund Policy For This Kit: I successfully modified and used two Motorola i90c phone holsters when I had my Samsung i600, so my mod does work. Since I don't know what your handyman skills are, I obviously can not offer any guarantee or refund for a kit once it ships.

I understand there is no refund once this item ships

The plastic phone holster/case that I used was a Radio Shack # 170-0194 for $13.49. UPDATE: This item has been discontinued by Radio Shack - However, because this item was a genuine Motorola i90c Phone Holster (not a knock-off), you can probably obtain one from Motorola directly.

What's neat about this case is that it will fit the Samsung i600 Smartphone (offered by Verizon and Sprint) even with the extended battery installed. Also, the sides of this phone holster aren't in the way of anything, and allow full/easy access to the side buttons and the SD memory slot on the i600 without having to remove the phone from the holster.

  1. I first cut off the right side of the top "snap" (top arrow) so that it would fit into the top carry-strap hole on the Samsung i600 phone.

I also cut off a section of the right back-side of the holster (right-side arrow) to accommodate the i600's antenna.

  2. I then used a Heat Gun to soften the plastic so I could stretch the lower sides of the holster so it would wrap-around and fold-over the bottom edges of the phone slightly (so it will hold the bottom of the phone securely in place)

  3. Below are different angles of the completed case:
